Evolution Today
In my 26 years of travel in East Africa I have never witnessed anything like this. This baboon appears to be very comfortable with bipedalism. One wonders if others in his troop will adapt and adopt this form of locomotion. Paleoanthropologists suggest that bipedalism played a key role in human evolution.
Fascinating! Maybe baboons will be better bipeds than homo sapiens have turned out to be. Pretty soon we'll be back on all fours...
ReplyDeleteThat was amazing! The baboon looked a lot like my older cousin "Lucy".
ReplyDeletehe walks just like i do...
ReplyDeleteFacinating! As a bio teacher who actually teaches details of hominid evolution, I am cuious if this baboon was at all quadupedal when you observed it, or might it be a biped due to some genetic/physical "ailment". I'd also be curious to know if he/she gains any daily advantage from this condition...ahhh the questions! Thanks a ton for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like how I walk after a night of insomnia! Quite incredible!
ReplyDeleteI have to wonder if one of his front legs might cause pain to put weight on due to the idea that he would never be able to run away from a predator fast enough using "upright" locomotion........
